2 Must-Have Products to Extend Your Blow-Dry

It’s no coincidence that all the major hair care lines have introduced products to extend the life of a good blow dry. Who likes to blow-dry their hair?

In fact, a careless, roughed-up, almost slept-on style seems to be considered one of the sexiest ways women are wearing their hair these days. While achieving this foxy mane may seem mystifying at best, it’s actually something every woman can achieve with a few key techniques and the right styling products.

One absolute must-have product to keep in your hair arsenal is Rene Furterer’s Naturia Dry Shampoo; a cleansing, water-free shampoo (that’s right, water free) for the hair. This product uses a lightweight, invisible powder to absorb oils. Now, I know…”water free shampoo” & “invisible powder”…Sounds like magic, right? Ummm, it is! The shampoo actually cleanses hair without the use of water as well as restoring volume and shine. And it smells divine (lots of clients use it as a quick fix after the gym – men & women)! This is one product I haven’t been caught without in the three years since it launched.  It’s my secret weapon.

To use Dry Shampoo to extend your hair style into Day 2 (and quite possibly Day 3): lift the lengths of your hair to apply the Dry Shampoo directly to your roots. I just pick up a few sections all over my head.  Let it sit for a minute or 2 and then hit it with the blow dryer for just a few seconds (10-30 depending on your length).  It really is that simple. I typically just run my fingers through my hair afterward & I’m ready to go!  You could also quickly pin 1 or both sides back, use a headband, scarf, etc.

Another AMAZING product that is newer to the market is Oribe’s Dry Texturing Spray. So, yes, if you know me at all, you know I’m CRAZY about Oribe products. This particular product launched last year & completely took over. It is a revolutionary, invisible, dry spray that builds incredible volume and sultry texture. And it’s that capacity to perfectly texturize the hair that has stylists & hair gurus around the world swooning.  Here’s the secret…You really can make your hair do most anything once you’ve created the perfect texture. Oh, and it too will absorb oil at the roots so it can cross over as your Dry Shampoo as well.  Along with Rene Furterer’s Dry Shampoo, Oribe Dry is one of my styling staples.

To achieve that 2nd day “sultry waves” look, use 1, or both, of the above mentioned products as described (if Dry Shampoo, spray at roots, if using Oribe Dry, spray just roots or all over like a hairspray). Divide hair into sections (I pull out a halo section at the crown & pin it up while curling underneath). Working away from the face, wrap 1 ½” sections around the outside of a 1” curling iron while holding the iron vertically. Keep that last ½” of hair out of the iron. After completing all sections, you will end up with soft, loose curls (if your hair isn’t holding, try spraying each section lightly with hairspray immediately after curling). In lieu of brushing afterward, use your fingers to piece through the curls & they will become wavy & less “curled.” If you need more volume, tease hair at the root (particularly in the crown area). You can use a leave-in conditioning spray or serum on your ends to give your new do a sexy finish. Spray or massage into your hands and then move through the ends as necessary. Note: This should not be a long process. While your 1st attempt may take a little longer, this entire process should not take any more than 20 minutes.

Ok, it’s your turn! Using the right products and following the tips listed above, you too can create coveted second-day hair styles that will make you feel like the beauty I know you are. Let me know how it goes!
